Packaging plays an important role on our path towards greater sustainability. Every bouquet that leaves the shop with flower food also brings packaging to the consumer. That is why we offer a range of packaging options that fit our customers' sustainability goals. The paper sachet is an important part of that: a paper-based alternative that can easily go in with the waste paper after use.
A paper sachet made to stay in the water
The sachet is made from our own FSC-certified paper and is officially classified as fully recyclable. Inside is an exclusive Vaselife coating. It forms a waterproof barrier, so the sachet can stay in the water for a number of days without falling apart.
When recycled, the coating separates easily from the paper. This means the empty sachet can simply go in with the waste paper. Its recyclability has been independently tested to the recognised standard PTS-RH:021/97 of the Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTSpaper).
Our new powder formula
The sachet contains our new powder formula for cut flowers. It is suitable for almost all flower types and for every bouquet, and gives flowers the nutrition they need to develop naturally in the vase.
- Contains all the essential nutrients for natural blooming
- Stimulates water uptake and keeps flowers well hydrated
- Keeps both flowers and foliage fresh for longer
- Maintains bright colours and clear vase water
- Extends vase life and reduces flower loss
- Colourless, universal formula, suitable for all flowers except anthurium
What this means for retail and florists
A bouquet travels a long way before it ends up in someone's home. It is grown, harvested, processed, transported and carefully presented. The final stage in the vase is just as important. With the paper sachet, you give every bouquet the nutrition it needs for that last stage, in packaging your customer is not left with after use.
The sachet is available in two sizes:
- 1,000 sachets per box, for 1 litre of water per sachet
- 2,000 sachets per box, for 0.5 litre of water per sachet
How to use it
- Use one sachet per litre of water (or per half litre for the small size)
- Remove the lower leaves so that only the stem is under water
- Cut the stems with sharp, disinfected tools
- Only use acid-resistant materials when dosing
- Do not use in combination with metal, such as iron, zinc, copper or tin
Our packaging choices
The paper sachet does not stand alone. At Vaselife, customers can choose from several packaging options, depending on how they work and their sustainability ambitions:
- Mono-PE with at least 35% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR)
- Recyclable mono-PE, made from a single type of plastic
- The recyclable paper sachet made with FSC-certified paper
- FSC-certified cardboard for all our cardboard packaging
We are also happy to think along with you on product, dosing, size, packaging and private label, for both your flowers and your business.
What we are still working on
Becoming more sustainable is not a one-off achievement for us, but an ongoing responsibility. We base our choices on facts and work with specialist partners such as the LCA Centre to assess the real impact of our packaging choices. We continue to explore new materials, with the aim of using fewer virgin raw materials and making our packaging more circular.
